Our team recognise the value of delivering therapy in groups.

We have a number of groups running across local communities which you are welcome to attend. Equally we are happy to be approach by groups of parents, groups of adults, school and community settings, to run groups on a request basis.


Typical groups we provide for children

Autism camps

A daily or weekly camp.  We will match children by age and ability.  Junior through to secondary aged children welcome. Opportunities to work on 1;1 target skills;

  • Building their need and motivation to communicate
  • Developing their levels of understanding
  • Developing their use of spoken words
  • Developing their overall use of signs, symbols, PECs, photos or any chosen     communication system- Recognising their emotions and expressing them more clearly-
  • Responding to structure and lowering anxiety levels which can lead to negative behaviour
  • Opportunities to work in group and paired work:
  • Working on turn taking
  • Working on increasing their attention and listening

Early language club

A daily or weekly club for pre school and reception aged children.

  • Opportunities to work on 1;1 target skills;
  • Developing their levels of understanding
  • Developing their use of spoken words
  • Increasing their vocabulary
  • Opportunities to work in group and paired work:
  • Working on turn taking
  • Working on increasing their attention and listening
  • Working on using language for asking questions and sharing their ideas with others

Higher level language club

A daily or weekly club for Junior aged children and those in their first years of secondary school. Opportunities to work on 1;1 target skills;

  • Developing their understanding of more complex language
  • Developing their use of extended sentences
  • Developing their understanding and use of Semantics (word meanings)
  • Developing their understanding and use of Grammar
  • Opportunities to work in group and paired work:
  • Working on group disucssions
  • Working on some social communication aspects of language
  • Increasing social confidence

Speech sound and literacy club

A daily or weekly club for pre school and school aged children.  We will match children by age and ability. Opportunities to work on 1;1 target skills;

  • Working on their specific speech sound errors
  • Building skills to use the correct sounds in single words and sentences
  • Supporting generalisation skills so that the sounds are produced correctly in connected sentences
  • Ensuring speech errors do not reflect in reading, writing and spelling skills
  • Opportunities to work in group and paired work:
  • Talking with other children using the correct speech sounds
  • Building confidence to talk within a group

Handwriting club

A daily or weekly club for primary and secondary school aged children.  We will match children by age and ability. Opportunities to work on 1;1 target skills;

  • Teaching your child to us an alternative handwriting approach to aid more effective handwriting
  • Building their confidence and motivating them to want to write again
  • Use non writing approaches to build co-ordination and motor skills to support handwriting
  • Opportunities to work in group and paired work:
  • Understand that other children have handwriting difficulties to
  • Group activities to make writing fun again

AAC user group Club:

Opportunities to work on 1;1 target skills:

  • Opportunities to work on 1;1 target skills;
  • Developing their use of their own communication aid device
  • Developing a better social communication skills when interacting with others
  • Opportunities to work in group and paired work:
  • Working on turn taking
  • Working on increasing functional independence skills using their AAC

School readiness Camp

  • Preparing children to go into primary school ensuring they have;
  • Good foundations for attention and listening skills
  • A good level of understanding
  • The ability to answer questions verbally and to respond in sentences
  • An appropriate range of speech sounds and sound awareness skills
  • An overview of the phonics system in preparation for reading and spelling
  • Age appropriate play skills

Social communication club

Opportunities to work on target skills;

  • Developing their understanding of more complex language such as idioms,
  • Developing their use of questions and answers
  • Developing their understanding and use of Semantics (word meanings)
  • Developing their ability to stay on topic
  • Developing their ability to repair conversational breakdown
  • Working on group disucssions
  • Increasing social confidence

Typical groups for adults

Post stroke (brain injury) communication group.

Opportunities to work on target skills;

  • Developing expressive language skills which have been lost
  • Supporting methods for word retrieval
  • Supporting sentence building
  • Supporting social communciation skills
  • Supporting memory skills
  • Supporting speech with additional resources to help communicate with speed
  • Using technology to support rehabilitation

All our groups will be led by a qualified therapist who is registered with HCPC. In addition, where possible all groups will be supported by a number therapy students, to provide individualised support to our clients.
